Cabo Pulmo Park is located just 60 miles north of Baja’s tourism epicenter, Los Cabos. This jewel of the East Cape region of Baja California Sur stretches five miles from the northernmost tip, Pulmo Point to the southernmost tip, Los Frailes. Surrounded by undeveloped desert and a stunning mountain range, the pristine beaches of Cabo Pulmo Park give way to a shallow bay that cradles one of three living reefs (the only hard coral reef) in North America.
For many years, this precious place went unprotected. But through the tenacious efforts of the Cabo Pulmo community, in 1995, the waters offshore from Cabo Pulmo were designated a National Marine Park by the Mexican government.
Thrill seekers won’t want to miss an opportunity to kiteboard in the Sea of Cortez. The small East Cape town of Los Barriles has become a renowned kiteboarding spot, and hosts a premier competition: Lord of the Wind Showdown, annually.
Powered by the wind, a kitesurfer sails through water and air with the help of a board, harness, and kite. The best time to kite surf is between November-March, when strong “El Norte” winds sweep through the area and create a consistent 15 to 30 mph breeze.
the fishing village of Los Barriles, Mexico is an adventure lover’s paradise, and the kind of place where one can easily get off the grid. ‘The Barrels’ (as it’s known in Spanish) is on the southeast tip of Baja California Sur, and best known for its kiting spots, sport fishing and laid-back vibe that lures sun-seekers down the area for months at a time. It's a fun day trip from La Ribera as it's only 30min from our condo.
Centrally located within Costa Palmas, the Marina Village is the backdrop to the many adventures at sea. It’s the heart of the community and it beats from dawn to dusk, even into the early hours of the next morning. It’s the perfect place to enjoy an evening stroll and watch the lights on boats and yachts twinkle off the water, or to catch up with friends for a sundowner.D
